Alexa — another Hood River resident and philanthropist who sees the benefit in embracing outdoor recreation to benefit lives affected by cancer — is putting on a Paddle Benefit for First Descents on June 6.
To know about First Descents, you have to read their mission: “First Descents is committed to curing young adults of the emotional effects of cancer and empowering them to regain control of their lives by experiencing whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment.”
Pretty cool, huh? In fact, we like First Descents so much that KB4C has somewhat based our Survivorship Camps on the First Descent model. I will be volunteering in one of First Descents’ upcoming camps on the White Salmon River in Washington in June to experience it as a volunteer and to help wherever I can during their camps. I am so excited!!!
So, Alexa’s fundraiser on June 6 is for that camp! The event is easy; paddle either with a kayak, raft or a stand-up paddle board (SUP) from the Hood River Water Park around Wells Island (approx. 3 miles). You can get your friends and family to sponsor your fun and give your paddling a purpose.
All funds raised from Alexa’s event go to First Descents. Click here to learn more about First Descents.
