Fun for the Whole Family
When I saw Tonia’s post a month or so back about needing help for this year’s Tenacity Games, I knew it was something I wanted to help out with and be a part of. So, last week, I packed up the car and headed out from San Diego, arriving in Hood River on Friday. Since then, I have been getting myself acquainted with the area…the kite spots, the coffee shops, the restaurants, and the people.
In celebrating a friend’s birthday at The Thirsty Woman last night, I started talking with one of the other women at the outing. She is a Hood River local and a mother of five. When I told her that I was helping out with the Tenacity Games this year, she raved about how great an event it was. She mentioned that last year she was just going to stop by to see what it was all about, but her and her kids ended up spending the whole day at the event…enjoying the art tent, listening to the music, and watching the colorful array of kites coming towards them once the races began. She commented on the impressive endurance of the riders and the continual commentary that helped them know what was happening on and off the water. In fact, her and her kids enjoyed the event so much last year that when her sister asked if there was a good time to come visit from out of town, she recommended coming that weekend so her sister, too, could experience the event. Her reflections were pretty awesome to hear, and it got me even more excited for the actual event, which is a short two and a half weeks away.
So, next time you are talking with your neighbors or friends or parents of your child’s play date buddy, encourage them to come down to the event that weekend (July 8 – 10). There will be plenty to do for children and adults alike. It’s going to be an absolute blast and a day to remember.
